24 Hours in Quebec City

Quebec City

I decided to visit Quebec city during the Carnaval . I am from the province of Quebec and embarrassed to admit it, I have never seen it. It turned out, I may have needed more than 24 hours, oh well I missed the Carnaval. There is always next year!

The reason being is how much fun I had in Valcartier Village. It is approximately 25 minutes drive from Quebec City. I was surprised no shuttle buses are available and the only way to get there is by taxi. The cab fare will be a little over 60$ . I know it is quite high , this is why I don’t understand what Quebec City is waiting for shuttle bus.

Village Valcartier

For the longest time , I always wanted to visit the Ice Hotel or Hôtel de Glace in French, in Valcartier Village .Can you believe this hotel has reached the top 5 Ice Hotels of the World? We are amongst the top with Finland, Sweden and Norway. So why is that?

Upon entering the Ice Hotel, I immediately fell into a moment of a glorified era of the Ice Age . It was so magical I almost forgot I was in my own Province of Quebec . Sculpted art commanded every room of the hotel colouring it with dashes of colourful lights.

You are immediately in a moment of jovial awe ,like a child experiencing 1st Santa Claus sighting! Stopping at the chapel with fur covered pews for the group worshippers was just a genius , creative concept . Imagine adding some pipe organ music ? It would have blown me away !!!

Every step, every walk was like eating chocolate from a chocolate box; each one was a surprise but getting better and better. Don’t forget to stop at the bar and pick up a drink . Yes you got it, it is served in an ice glass!

Can you get better than this?

People around the world cannot fathom how we Canadians deal with -25c cold. We must admit, we don’t love it but we are so used to it, like a long time married couple.

Hotel Details

What I loved about the Ice Hotel were the details. Yes it can get cold and why not add a fireplace section to warm your hands . Why not add a sliding area for the children and the adults as well. Adding French folk music to add extra ambiance was a sure way to make my friend and I to sing and dance as 2 silly girls.

This magical place is a must when visiting Quebec. You can also stay overnight but the prices can be a little steep. But if you just want a tour of the Ice Hotel there are day passes to purchase for a low as 20.99$ .

Come visit Quebec especially during the winter to understand how we really experience our polar winters.

I was given a complimentary VIP Pass to visit Valcartier as usual all opinions are my own.
